A Young Woman Reading a Book

Dr. Chiquita Howard-Bostic's publications represent five areas of study: (1) learner-centered pedagogy, (2) international crime, (3) youth, violence, and aggression, (4) intimate partner violence, and (5) Black Feminist Thought. She has published articles in peer reviewed journals including, "Is Mutual Violent Combat (MVC) A Gender Neutral Conceptualization of Intimate Partner Violence?" in Conference of the International Journal of Arts and Sciences. She published "Women's Emotive Responses and Female-Perpetrated Intimate Partner Violence" in the Journal of International Criminal Justice Research. Her manuscript, "A Hybrid Learner-Centered Pedagogy" was published in the East Coast Colleges Social Science Journal in April of 2015. In 2015, with Basirico, Eshleman, and Cashion, she co-published The Handbook of General Sociology, a Sociology textbook. She has also published in Wiley's Encyclopedia of Corrections.

Black Girls and Adolescents: Facing the Challenges covers a wide range of concerns, including obesity, substance abuse, sex trafficking, gangs, teen pregnancy, and suicide attempts. Stress, low self-esteem, anger, aggression, and violence are explored, as are failures of our education system and of a legal system that tends to victimize young black women. Dr. Howard-Bostic authored chapter 26.
